Rice, Tx Damage
Oct 25 2010.
Finally, after three days of unsettled weather, things have calmed down. Of all three days, Sunday was the most active for me chase-wise with several intercepted supercells. This is the first time in my chase carrier that I’ve intercepted so many supercells within a short time-frame. Unfortunately, one specific supercell produced a significant tornado that impacted a rural North Texas town. Veteran Storm Chasers Shane Adams and Bridget Geaughan of PassionTwist.com captured this amazing video of the tornado as it passed over I-45. This tornado was produced by a supercell that formed just before 5 PM in southwestern Ellis County. As the storm took a slight right turn, it began to encounter more favorable 1 KM SRH. As stated in yesterday’s discussions, a boundary was positioned over the area from Saturday’s convection. Although it is not known as of this time whether or not that boundary had anything to do with this tornado, it is possible

State May Have $2.1 Billion Storm Burden
The Dallas Morning News
AUSTIN – The state could be on the hook for as much as $2.1 billion because of the massive property damage inflicted on the Texas coast by Hurricane Ike.
Officials with the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association said Wednesday that claims paid by the so-called wind pool – the insurer of last resort that covers most of the coast – could reach as high as $4 billion in residential and commercial property losses.
Although insurance companies will initially have to pay most of the claims through mandatory assessments by the state, they will be able to recover those payments through deductions in their state premium taxes. Insurers can generally deduct about 20 % of their assessments each year.
Hurricane Ike was the third most destructive hurricane to ever hit the United States.

"My wife and I jumped up and ran towards the bathroom and the whole roof came off the house."

City Assesses Storm Damage
Garland, Texas – February 11, 2009 – Portions of Garland experienced some wind damage from the thunderstorms that blew through the north Texas region last night and early this morning. According to the National Weather Service, the damage was caused by micro bursts instead of straight-line winds or any type of tornado activity.
The weather damage was contained primarily to the areas near Shiloh and Miller Roads, in the 1800 block of Patricia Street, and in the vicinity of Walnut Street, Lavon Drive and Avenue B. Commercial and some residential property owners reported damage from flying debris, portions of roofs gone, broken fences or downed trees.
Garland Power & Light reported scattered electrical outages. Repair crews were on the streets immediately after the storms and expect all customers to have service by the end of the day.
Garland Mayor Ronald E. Jones toured some of the damaged areas earlier today. “It’s always distressing to have your home or business hit hard by wind and rain. We are grateful that no injuries were reported.”
District 2 City Council member Laura Perkins Cox toured the areas affected in her district. “I have spent today visiting with the homeowners and business owners who unfortunately suffered damage in last night's severe storms. I have spoken with the City Manager and his staff to ensure that the City of Garland will assist any affected homeowner or business in every way possible. I invite anyone in District 2 who has a need or a concern to contact me at 214-364-9319. I will help you however I can.”
Mayor Jones also reminds everyone of the importance of having an emergency plan at home and at work. “A critical part of any emergency plan is to have a weather alert radio in your home or business so you can receive updates about severe weather or other types of emergencies.”
